About Helen I. Herbert

Hello, thank you for visiting

I’m Helen I. Herbert, a retired career woman who has loved books and writing since I was a child. Writing is pleasurable to me and I also enjoy understanding how people tick – why they do the things they do – how their brains make sense of the world. So my books tell stories of people.

I’d love you to meet some of these people, read their stories, know them, be connected to them. Find out more on the Books To Love page.

Bit of A Bio

Although I wrote my first novel at the age of 13 and have been writing, in one way or another most of my life, I started writing fiction seriously after I retired. I have published four e-books, three novels set in New Zealand, and one in England. I have self-published print copies of ‘A Year of Change’ and ‘There and Beyond’ and may print ‘Lost Property’.

In my working life, I was a Speech Pathologist working predominantly with young children. Learning to speak correctly and coherently gives children, and adults, greater confidence. So this was a very enjoyable aspect of my work.

As with some of the characters in my books, I too emigrated from the UK to start a new life, with my English husband, in an unknown country, far away from my family. So some of the details in my books are drawn from my own experiences.

I live in Wanaka in the South Island, one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. I am now working on my fifth novel set in London, UK.

Take a good book to bed with you… books do not snore
